Power to the People
Oshi Kirk
Let’s be frank. It’s a tough gig, running your own business. The market is heavily saturated. We exist in a consumer market where just about anyone can start a small business, and at the same time original ideas are increasingly difficult to come by..

You might just find yourself waking up one day and realising that your ‘big idea’ is disturbingly similar to a lot of other big ideas around you…
So how do you stand out from an incessantly noisy crowd in today’s competitive, dog-eat-dog world?
In a nutshell, it all comes down to the powerful symbiosis of staff satisfaction and customer loyalty. As Tony Robins so memorably put it, people don’t buy things, they buy feelings. Customer loyalty develops through an interplay between physical and emotional needs (‘I need to eat, and that restaurant always makes me feel so relaxed’).
So the key to your success is making sure that people feel positively about engaging with your business.
And how on earth do you do that?
EMPOWER. YOUR. PEOPLE
Research shows that helping others feel more powerful can boost productivity, improve performance, and leave employees feeling more satisfied on the job. By truly valuing and encouraging your employees, you will boost their morale as well as your bottom line.
Because here’s the clincher: If your staff are happy, your customers will be too. It’s very difficult to ‘fake’ good customer service, day in, day out. But when your staff are happy, they pass the benefits on to the customer. Before you know it, your customers keep returning for their regular coffee, books, repairs, dental work, bike repairs, whatever—because they get to know you, and you come to fulfill the all-important primal desire for social connection and understanding: you make them feel GOOD.
HAPPY STAFF = HAPPY CUSTOMERSSo stop cutting the fat from your team. Do whatever it takes to make sure they are empowered, motivated, and feel rewarded.
Stop paying minimum wage.
Ask them if they’re happy (and really mean it).
Make your team feel powerful and they will achieve the goals that no individual ever could.
