I want to apologise for the people out there that looked at this title and nodded, yes, we totally know what you are talking about, gee whiz, you did?

Well… no, I didn’t. When I started my first company in 2003 I didn’t. My first order came on February 2004, big one 5 x 40ft containers. When my first shipment finally arrived from Italy (long, long delivery) and the clerk at the freight forwarding wouldn’t release my shipment until I gave him a cheque for $15,450.00 for GST…what?!?

GET.  MONEY.  FAST.

Went to the bank, grovelled a little, might’ve even flirted a little, and ended up redrawing on my mortgage, since I am not that good… But then I thought, really? Is that the best I can do? Grovel every time I have a shipment coming?

I called my accounting firm: “what can we do?” Uninterestingly, I got a comment, well, just

get a deferred GST.

WOW I shouted, genius, how do I get one of those?

Well, instead of being on quarterly BAS, be on monthly; instead of manual, lodge it online, voila!! My life has never been the same – and my cash flow LOVED it!!
